Over nine lakh people in Andhra Pradesh were affected by cyclone Titli, revealed a report filed by the Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Authority. According to the report, 18 mandals in Srikakulam were affected. Mandansa, Polaki and Jalamuru mandals are still flooded, authorities said. Cyclone Titli landed in Orissa’s Gopalpur on Thursday, which also badly affected the north coastal districts of Andhra – Srikakulam and Vizianagaram. Crop loss The agricultural damage in Srikakulam is estimated to be at 1,39,844 hectares – of which 1,36,531 hectares were paddy, 2,021 were cotton, 1,150 were maize and 142 hectares of sugarcane. The horticulture damage was estimated at 14,378 hectares – out of which 12,000 hectares were coconut (2,98,750 trees), 1,640 were cashew, 712 were banana and 13 hectares each of papaya and vegetables. In Vizianagaram, the agricultural damage was estimated at 308.1 hectares – out of which 153.3 hectares were paddy, 101.6 were cotton, 48.2 were sugarcane and 5 hectares were maize. A total of 2,424 hectares of banana crops were also damaged in the district. Livestock loss The department said that 80 small animals, nine big cattle and 500 poultry birds had died. Loss estimated by fisheries department The department estimated a loss of Rs 934.62 lakh. According to them, 12 boats were lost and 447 of them were damaged. Though Visakhapatnam didn’t suffer as badly as Srikakulam, the damages were estimated at Rs 190 lakh. The irrigation department also said that 80 tanks were damaged. The government has set up 15 relief camps in Srikakulam.
