Turkey has released new figures on the nation’s 2018 crop production. The Turkstat Institute has cleared numbers showing that cereals and other crops, and vegetable production in general decreased when compared to the year before. While the production of cereals and vegetables dropped with 5.8% and 2.6% respectively, there was a small growth in the production of fruits, beverages and spices (0.8%) in 2018. The numbers for cereals and other crops, vegetables and fruits, beverages and spices in 2018 are as follows; 64.4 million tons for cereals and other crops, 30 million tons for vegetables and 22.3 million tons for fruits. In the pulses group, a decrease occurred in broad beans to consume by 13.8% and production approximately became 5.9 thousand tons, red lentil decreased by 22.5% and became 310 thousand tons and potatoes decreased by 5.2%, approximately coming down to 4.6 million tons. Vegetables production decreased in 2018 Vegetables production in 2018 amounted to 30 million tons, decreasing by 2.6% when compared with the previous year. When examining production of subgroups of vegetables, root and tuberous vegetables production  decreased by 2.5%, production of vegetables cultivated for their fruits decreased by 2.9% and other vegetables not elsewhere classified increased with the rate of 1.4%. The production of some important crops in vegetables; increments are became in leek by 21.5%, in carrots by 12.9%, in squash by 5.6% while decrements became as 9.4% in dry onion, 4.7% in tomatoes, 3.3% in melon. Fruit production increased in 2018 Fruits, beverages and spices production became 22.3 million tons in 2018 increasing by 0.8% when compared with the previous year. When examining productions of some important fruits, there is increase in apple production by 19.6%, in pomegranates production by 7%, in strawberries production by 10.2% while there is decrease in apricots production by 23.9% and in grapes production by 6.4% when compared with the previous year. In the citrus group, increments became in mandarin production by 6.4%. From nuts, hazelnuts production decreased by 23.7%.
