Low temperatures are expected to reduce fruit harvest in many places across Bulgaria according to Zhivka Grozdeva, member of the Management Board of the Association of Fruit Growers in Bulgaria.
“Sometimes hail damages are so great that it could take years for a plant to recover. There is virtually no insurance against frost as the insurance period starts around end of April when the risk of frost or very low temperatures at night is much lower.”
“The fruits currently produced in the largest quantities are apples, peaches, apricots, plums and cherries, but with some fruits such as pear, the production has diminished,” Grozdeva commented.
