This is the time of year when Yantai harvests open-field cherries. However, excessive rainfall this year has caused many cherries to split open. In 2018, atypical scab symptoms were observed on fruits of Huangtaiping in Heilongjiang Province of China. The disease incidence was estimated at approximately 0.4%. Symptoms were scab-like black spots distinct from scab caused by Venturia inaequalis.
China is the world’s largest producer of lychee. Over recent years, lychees from this country have been gaining access to more and more countries, and the export volume is also rising steadily. At present, the new flowering season is around the corner, but due to La Niña, production areas are facing severe challenges.
Last week (December 6-12), overall banana prices in production areas remained stable. Although prices of premium-grades and products damaged by the cold weather varied, they had little effect on the overall market. At least three Chinese companies are investing in industrial steaming equipment to use in the phytosanitary treatment of agricultural products for export, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Veng Sakhon said.
