The damages that the flooding in Murcia and other parts of southern Spain has caused have not been fully evaluated yet, but attempts are being made to do so. The first estimates issued by the Consortium of Insurance Compensation (CCS) are that 30,000 claimants will be entitled to pay-outs of totalling to about 190 million euros.
A total of 801 farmers in the province were recipients of the P5.44- million drought crop insurance indemnity program of the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC). PCIC said each farmers-beneficiaries affected by the El Niño phenomenon in the province received around P8,000 to P9,000 per hectare.

Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh Saturday said on account of bad weather in Odisha, insurance claims paid under the crop insurance scheme were more than the total premiums. He said there were four states, including Odisha, where under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) more than 100 per cent claims against the total premiums were registered during the last Kharif season.

The Philippine Crop Insurance Corp. Farmers in Alberta were spared the dramatic and devastating hail storms seen in previous years, resulting in fewer claims for hail damage in 2017, two leading crop insurance groups said Monday. According to the Canadian Crop Hail Association’s final report for the season, hail damage payments to Alberta farmers dropped 60 per cent this year compared to 2016.
Due to states delaying assessment of crop loss, settlement of claims under the centre’s flagship crop insurance scheme is getting delayed, agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh said on Wednesday. The minister also complained that some states like Bihar and Kerala did not deposit their share of insurance premium on time, delaying payments to farmers.
