Potato growers will soon be without another plant protection tool after European regulators decided to withdraw granular insecticide and nematicide ethoprophos last week. The active ingredient is contained in the granular soil-applied product Mocap 15G. Marketed in the UK by Certis, it is seen as the leading product for reducing the impact of soil-borne pest wireworm.
“We have a good period for Brussels sprouts behind us. However, at the moment, auction prices are meager. Normally, when there is winter weather, the demand is good. This reflects in the prices received at auction", says BelOrta's Guy Jennes. “The current auction price for medium-sized Brussels sprouts is very low. The larger sizes are getting better prices, but it is still too little.

The sudden downpour has served a severe blow to chilli farmers who suffered indescribable loss as the crop got soaked in the rain and dashed their hopes of reaping rich benefit. Brazilian soy farmers face the prospect of more crop failures, a grain growers group said on Friday, as a leading agribusiness consultancy revised its forecast for the country's crop this year due to a drought that is hurting fields. In states such as Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul losses are known while in other regions they have not yet been accurately measured, said Bartolomeu Braz, the head of grain growers group Aprosoja Brasil.
