While Florida and California accounted for 76 percent of U.S. production of field-grown tomatoes in 2016, greenhouse production and use of other protected-culture technologies help extend the growing season and make production feasible in a wider variety of geographic locations. Some greenhouse production is clustered in traditional field-grown-tomato-producing States like California.
In the southern areas of Central Italy, heavy, persistent rain and floods have caused a critical situation to develop in the countryside. According to the producer, entire ready-to-eat salad, carrot and turnip fields have been completely destroyed. The acreage devoted to greenhouse crops in Eastern Andalusia has reached 35,489 hectares, 1.7% more than in the year 2017, according to cartographical data of 2018. Almeria, Granada and Malaga together have seen the acreage grow by 579 hectares, and this figure has been increasing yearly since the first study carried out in 2001. Last year alone, the protected acreage grew by more than 10 percentage points.

On Friday, it was announced that the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) had linked the deaths of nine Europeans to the listeria contamination in one of Greenyard's Hungarian factories. At 12.43 on that day, the trading in Greenyard shares was halted by the financial watchdog, FSMA. This was in anticipation of a press release from the company. At the time of the halted trade, the Greenyard shares reported a loss of 9,5%. By Monday, 16 July, the shares had fallen a further 30%, to €7,92.
The Daqing Hongfu modern technology industry project covers an area of more than 10000 mu, with a total investment of 15 billion RMB. The aim of the project is to build up a large-scale integrated park which features modern technological agricultural industries and combines other leisure, cultural, scientific, business and healthcare industries.
