Hungary - Quality and volume of apples expected to fall this year

Due to the weather, the quality and quantity of apples is expected to fall this year, not just in Hungary, but across Europe. There may be a drop of up to 50 percent. However, prices won't be expensive, as there are enough stocks left over from last year, when there was a record production. This was reported by Ferenc Apáti, vice president of FruitVeb, the Hungarian Fruit and Vegetable Interprofessional Organization and Product Board, to the newspaper Magyar Nemzet. The overloading of the plantations last year is also the reason for this season's poor results. After last year's 900,000 tons harvested, which is a lot more than the 600,000 tons estimated as the ten-year average, this year, around 450,000 tons are expected to be shipped from the plantations.
