The Bharmour Fruit and Vegetable Growers’ Association has sought compensation for orchard owners and farmers from the Bharmour tribal area who have been severely affected by incessant snow and rain this winter season.
In a representation submitted to Chamba Deputy Commissioner Harikesh Meena, association president Moti Ram Sharma urged the administration to conduct a special survey to assess the losses and take measures to rehabilitate small orchardists and farmers.
Sharma said heavy snowfall last month had played a havoc with apple orchards of Bharmour tribal subdivision.
He said the loss suffered would continue to affect their economy for the years to come. Farmers would not be able to harvest the apple crop during this period.
Sharma requested the administration to apprise the state government about the adverse circumstances in the Bharmour tribal area in the aftermath of heavy snowfall and rain during the winter.
