The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro)'s technology is no longer mainly about launching satellites. The space agency has been constantly enlarging its role in development activities, contributing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mission of "Transforming India", said Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Development of Atomic Energy and Space, Jitendra Singh.
Virajpet Tahsildar L M Nandish said due to heavy rain losses to the tune of Rs 2.5 crore had been reported in six hoblis of the taluk. The official stated that many houses were damaged and crops were destroyed during incessant rains in the last week. Crops, including paddy and coffee, have been destroyed. The revenue department personnel have been finding it difficult to assess the exact amount of damage.
The Gujarat government’s new scheme for farmers facing crop losses will replace the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for this year only, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said. The new scheme, called Mukhya Mantri Kisan Sahay Yojana, will grant compensation to farmers facing crop losses due to drought, excess rain or unseasonal rain, without collecting any premium.
The Gujarat government on Monday launched a new scheme under which farmers facing crop losses due to drought, excess rain or unseasonal rain will get compensation without collection of any premium from them. The new scheme - Mukhya Mantri Kisan Sahay Yojana - will replace the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for this year only, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced here.
Locust swarms persist in some areas but they have caused only minor crop loss in some districts of Rajasthan, the government said in a statement. “No significant crop losses have been reported in the States of Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Haryana,” it said.
It was the severity of the on-going locust incursions that prompted Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to declare it a national disaster. In his letter to Modi, Gehlot said that farmers would suffer a loss of ₹1,000 crore even though timely warnings and joint locust control operations by the Centre and the State reduced the impact of the locust infestation.
Every year after Rabi and Kharif season harvest, a huge stock of grains is gutted due to shortage of warehousing and storage facilities following change of weather conditions. Even this year, despite scattered rains which have been much below than the average at various centres, the storage of grains in open caps has caused damage to agro produce stock.
Farmers have sought compensation for crop loss suffered due to heavy rain in Mansa district. The aggrieved farmers said no one from the Agriculture Department or the district administration had visited their fields to assess the level of damage. Agriculturists in around 40 villages, including Khokhar Khurd, Jhunir, Sardulgarh and Budhladha, who had sown paddy and cotton, suffered extensive loss.
