The Adana Farmers' Union announced that farmers in the southern cities of Adana, Mersin and Hatay don't expect to have a good citrus season this year. The association's chairman Mutlu Dogru shared the results of garden inspections in the area and said that this year, especially in lemon and orange varieties, the yields are expected to decrease by 70% compared to last season. Turkey's most consumed mandarin variety, satsuma mandarins, are also expected to yield 25% less than last year, said chairman Dogru and added: "Only in some grapefruit varieties we expect to have a higher yield, however we will have some issues in exports due to the size." Dogru pointed out to heavy rains and sudden increase in temperatures after blooming period and said that these could be the main reasons why citrus yields are lower this year. "Our production costs increased due to the fact that our agrochemicals and fertilizers are imported, and that exchange rates are higher now." Dogru added.
