Uruguay's 2020 citrus harvest will be 3% smaller than the 2019 harvest, totalling 234,913 tons, according to the results of the 2020 citrus harvest forecast prepared by the Directorate of Agricultural Statistics (DIEA) of the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fishing (MGAP). According to the forecast, this global fall will be due to the sharp 22% decrease in the volume of oranges, as the production of the three other fruits considered in the study -grapefruit, lemon, and mandarins- will increase by 50%, 14%, and 13%, respectively. Uruguay's citrus production will be led, in volume, by orange with just over 90,000 tons, followed closely by mandarins with just over 88,000 tons. Preliminary estimates for this year indicate that the country will have an exportable volume of 97,408 tons, which would be equivalent to 41.5% of the production, in average terms. Regarding exports, mandarins have the highest percentage in relation to production, with 48.8%, ahead of orange (41.3%), and lemon (30.3%). The 2020 citrus harvest forecast was produced during late May and early June. The spring 2020 survey, scheduled for October, will present the harvest results obtained.
