Argentina's wheat crop continued to remain under pressure amid growing unfavorable weather conditions, which are casting doubts of further crop loss. The frost is expected to make crop progress difficult for Argentina's wheat, as several regions in the country have been experiencing drought conditions since March.
A mid-spring freeze has reduced wheat production forecasts in Caldwell County and across Kentucky, yet the forecast is still significantly higher than last year’s crop. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) released the June Crop Production report Friday, showing a small in the yield forecast for Kentucky winter wheat.
In a typical year, Gypsum, Kansas farmer Justin Knopf would give participants of the Wheat Quality Council’s annual tour of the Kansas hard winter wheat crop a tour in his wheat fields in Saline County. Due to COVID-19, however, the 2020 tour was cancelled this year, but that hasn’t stopped Knopf from carefully scouting his wheat crop, which endured a hard freeze on April 3 and again the week of April 13.
Dry weather is persisting in Russia's southern regions, the country's main area for wheat production and exports, analysts said on Monday, with one of them, IKAR, downgrading its forecast for the 2020 crop. Rains are expected to arrive to those regions soon and could yet improve the situation for the crop from the world's largest wheat exporter. The crop is still expected to be higher than in 2019.
The provinces have failed to submit a report to the federal government about wheat losses in the current fiscal year, it emerged on Wednesday. Sources said all provinces usually submit the wheat losses report to the Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MoNFSC) every year on March 31, however, no one has submitted the report so far this year.
European Union crop monitoring service MARS on Monday forecast that the average soft wheat yields in the EU, including Britain, would fall 2.1% from last year, mainly owing to excessive rain in western Europe offsetting good crop weather elsewhere. In its first yield forecast for 2020, MARS projected EU soft wheat yields at 5.88 tonnes per hectares (t/ha) this year, down from 6.01 t/ha in 2019. That would still be 1.9% above the five-year average.

The likelihood of an increased spring barley area in the UK this season has bumped up the Coceral EU-28 barley production forecast, which is now estimated at 61.8Mt, up 1Mt on forecasts published last month.
Rabi crops have faced the brunt of above normal rains this month in India with commodities including wheat, mustard, chickpeas and potato affected by over 60% precipitation in north-western and central India. The inclement weather has caused crop loss in wheat, mustard and chickpea besides affecting the harvesting of potato.
The yellow rust has attacked the standing wheat crop in almost all districts in south Punjab, which may cause a considerable decline in the production, The News has learned. The yellow rust is a fungal disease that turns the leaves into yellowish color and affects the photosynthesis activity, which eventually could result in a drop of yield.
