South Korea’s African swine fever crisis intensified Tuesday with lab tests confirming the fourth case in a week from a farm near its border with North Korea. The discovery of still more cases has raised fears officials are fighting a losing battle to halt the spread of the disease that wiped out pig populations across Asia.
South Korea’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Gyeonggi provincial government said officials are testing samples of three dead pigs from two farms in Paju, a city where the country’s first case of the disease was confirmed Monday. Test results were expected to come out Friday night.
In South Korea the first lettuce and herbs have been harvested in the TAPKIT units that EZfarm purchased. Harvesting under these cold conditions is the first for the relatively new greenhouse kit. Teshuva Agricultural Projects (T.A.P.) supplies the TAPKIT - a 500 m2 hydroponic unit, in three different versions, depending on the climate of the project.
