Since the General Authority for Veterinary Services launched the national campaign to vaccinate livestock against foot-and-mouth disease and Rift Valley fever last October, the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation announced that more than 6.5 million vaccine doses have been administered nationwide.

According to a report submitted to Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, by Dr. Hamed Al-Aqnas, Head of the General Authority for Veterinary Services, field vaccination teams across all governorates have so far vaccinated more than 3.4 million head of livestock against foot-and-mouth disease, in addition to 3.1 million head against Rift Valley fever. The campaign covers all villages and governorates of the Republic.

Dr. Al-Aqnas noted that these vaccination campaigns are conducted three times a year to maintain strong and sustainable immunity among livestock nationwide.

As part of broader efforts to protect livestock and curb the spread of epidemics, more than 5,000 awareness seminars have also been held to educate breeders on the vaccination schedule and its economic and preventive significance.

He added that field inspection and monitoring campaigns are being carried out in livestock markets to disinfect the facilities and follow up on epidemiological investigations, in addition to monitoring farms and providing breeders with necessary support.

The authority emphasized the importance of continuous communication between veterinary departments and livestock breeders, urging them not to hesitate to seek assistance. Breeders may also contact the authority directly through its hotline 19561 to report illnesses, request vaccinations, or seek advice and support.

The General Authority for Veterinary Services renewed its call for all livestock breeders to actively cooperate with the ongoing vaccination campaigns and to expedite vaccinating their animals to ensure the campaign’s success and safeguard Egypt’s livestock sector.
