The Cuddalore district administration has asked the farmers to pay premium for paddy crop under the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme.

HDFC Ergo General Insurance has been authorised by the Tamil Nadu government to implement the PMFBY scheme for the 2026-27 Kharif season. The scheme will benefit loanee and non-loanee farmers in Cuddalore district, said Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar.

The last date to apply for insurance of paddy crop is July 31. The government has fixed the premium amount for insurance of paddy at ₹778 per acre.

Farmers who have taken crop loans will be enrolled in the insurance scheme through the banks that issued the loans, while non-loanee farmers may register through Common Service Centres (CSC), banks or Primary Agricultural Co-operative Credit Societies (PACS)

This year’s ‘Super El Nino’ is expected to reduce southwest monsoon rainfall. Therefore, farmers are urged to insure their crops to cover potential yield losses in the event of natural calamities.
