A herd of elephants, including calves, wreaked havoc on an agricultural farm belonging to Yashodhara Gowda at Pallattadka in Konaje village of Kadaba taluk.
Massive destruction of crops
The wild elephants went on a rampage, destroying more than 60 yielding arecanut trees, over 200 banana plants, several coconut trees, and the entire irrigation pipe network on the farm. The extensive damage is estimated to have caused a financial loss of over Rs 1 lac to the farmer.
In addition to the elephant menace, the farmer reported that his land has been continuously targeted by wild boars, which frequently destroy black pepper vines, tapioca, and banana plants.
Following the incident, Yashodhara has submitted an appeal to the deputy commissioner, seeking appropriate compensation for the massive agricultural losses incurred.
