Maharashtra Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharane has said that the state government plans to install weather stations in every village to ensure farmers receive accurate compensation under the weather-based fruit crop insurance scheme. A proposal in this regard will soon be sent to the central government.

The announcement was made during a special review meeting held in Mumbai to discuss irregularities, pending complaints and compensation issues related to the fruit crop insurance scheme in Palghar district. The meeting was attended by elected representatives, senior agriculture department officials, insurance company executives and farmer representatives.

Bharane directed the Palghar district administration to conduct a detailed inquiry into complaints from farmers in Dahanu and Boisar who allegedly paid insurance premiums but were not successfully registered under the scheme. He said village-level weather stations would help accurately match actual crop losses caused by weather conditions with insurance assessment parameters, reducing disputes and ensuring fair compensation.

The minister also directed insurance companies, banks and administrative authorities to strengthen coordination and resolve pending claims on priority. He emphasized that no eligible farmer should be deprived of compensation and instructed officials to ensure timely settlement of all genuine cases.
