SBI General Insurance plans to distribute Kharif 2026 crop insurance policy documents to farmers in Assam and eight other states under the Centre’s Meri Policy Mere Haath campaign.
In a statement, the insurer said it would work with state governments and local stakeholders to distribute documents and raise awareness about the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). SBI General Insurance is an implementing insurer under the scheme.
The other states covered by the planned outreach are Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Jharkhand.
The company said it would support policy distribution camps backed by Fasal Bima Pathshalas, Kisan Melas and Kisan Goshtis. The activities are intended to give farmers opportunities to discuss the scheme, share feedback and seek guidance.
It also plans to organise activities under two government-led initiatives: the International Year of Women Farmers and PMFBY@10 Farmer Champions.
The women farmers’ initiative will include workshops led by women farmers, aimed at explaining the scheme and enrolling more women.
Under PMFBY@10 Farmer Champions, the company plans engagement activities involving beneficiaries from the past ten years of the scheme. These beneficiaries will be recognised as farmer champions, and a dedicated meet will be organised to promote awareness among other farmers.
SBI General Insurance managing director and chief executive officer Naveen Chandra Jha said the outreach across nine states was intended to help farmers feel better informed and supported under PMFBY.
“For every farmer, knowing their crop is protected brings a sense of security that goes far beyond a policy document. Meri Policy Mere Haath is a powerful initiative that ensures this reassurance reaches them directly, strengthening trust in the crop insurance system. Through our outreach across nine states, we want farmers to feel supported, informed, and confident that PMFBY stands beside them in times of uncertainty. As their implementing insurance partner, we are committed to walking with them, shoulder to shoulder, and empowering their journey toward resilience and stability,” Naveen Chandra Jha said.
