Ogun State is set to witness a major boost in its livestock sector as JBS of Brazil, the world’s largest protein producer, has committed to investing $2.5 billion in Nigeria’s livestock industry through a strategic partnership with the state government.

Governor Dapo Abiodun made the announcement via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, highlighting the immense benefits of the collaboration. The deal was formalized during a visit by JBS representatives, led by Mr. Wesley Batista and Mr. John Coumantaros, to the governor’s office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

According to Governor Abiodun, Ogun State’s strategic advantages—including its prime location, well-developed infrastructure, and vast natural resources—make it an attractive destination for investment. Spanning over 16,000 square kilometers, the state boasts a thriving industrial base and Nigeria’s leading agro-dedicated airport.

“Our administration has created an investor-friendly environment by improving road networks, enhancing security, streamlining land acquisition, and advancing power generation to provide businesses with the most affordable electricity in the country,” Governor Abiodun stated.

The partnership aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, which focus on investment-driven growth, job creation, and food security. It will support various livestock production initiatives, including modern slaughterhouses, piggery and poultry farming, and the agricultural value chain.

Governor Abiodun expressed optimism about the project’s impact on Ogun State’s economy, emphasizing that it will generate employment, drive sustainable development, and reinforce the state’s status as a top agribusiness hub in Nigeria.
