Damage to crops from Mayon Volcano’s unrest has reached P6.69 million, with ashfall affecting several farmers in Albay, authorities said Tuesday.

A total of 41.54 hectares of farmland planted to rice and high-value crops were damaged, according to the Provincial Agriculture Office’s assessment report as of 8 a.m.

“Of the total, 17 hectares were partially damaged, while 24.26 hectares were totally damaged,” Officer-in-Charge Provincial Agriculturist Daryl John Buenconsejo told the Inquirer in a phone interview.

At least 171 farmers in Camalig, Guinobatan, and Daraga were affected.

Losses to rice were estimated at P2.64 million, while damage to high-value crops reached P4.06 million, Buenconsejo added.
