Forty-five farmers from San Juan, La Union who were affected by Typhoon Uwan last year received insurance payouts from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC).

The distribution of checks on Thursday (June 18) was led by Mayor Mariquita Ortega, together with personnel from the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) and representatives from the PCIC.

A total of P349,422 was released to beneficiaries whose claims had been validated by the MAO.

Of the amount, P268,422 went to 42 rice farmers, P36,000 to two livestock raisers, and P45,000 in life insurance benefits to the family of a deceased farmer.

For many of the recipients, who rely heavily on farming as their primary source of income, the assistance came as a significant relief after months of waiting following losses caused by crop damage.

The MAO said the beneficiaries were part of the first batch of claimants, with additional payouts expected in the coming months for other insured farmers who have filed their indemnity claims.
