The government of Argentina has imposed new restrictions on the access of farmers to bank loans. Farmers of the Pampa Húmeda region did not have financing releases in the last fifteen days. The measure was taken by the government to force producers to sell soybeans. Last December, state-run bank Banco Nación reduced the loans to farmers on 20 percent. Last again, again the bank announced a new measure to cut more 20 percent on new contracts.
The problems of credit access in the most producing regions of Argentina were confirmed by farmers interviewed by La Nación. According to the Confederation of Rural Associations of Buenos Aires and La Pampa, the limitations have resulted on a 50 percent fall of the rural producers purchasing power.
