The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) and the Ethiopian Insurance Corporation (EIC) have signed a historic partnership agreement to elevate their long-standing cooperation. The strategic pact, signed at the CBE headquarters by CBE Wholesale Vice President Dr. Eskinder Asfaw and EIC CEO Mr. Abel Tadesse, aims to integrate banking and insurance services to boost national economic growth.

Dr. Eskinder highlighted that the agreement is highly timely, designed to meet the growing demand for insurance as CBE aggressively expands its credit accessibility. A key component of the partnership includes collaborating on crop insurance to better support local farmers. Additionally, the agreement introduces a new service allowing customers to secure bank loans specifically to pay for their EIC insurance premiums.

The partnership will deeply leverage technology by integrating EIC’s services with CBE’s digital payment platforms. Moving forward, CBE will also sell insurance products directly through its extensive branch network. This synergy is expected to create a seamless experience, allowing clients of both financial giants to access mutual services efficiently.

EIC CEO Mr. Abel Tadesse expressed great honor in partnering with CBE, describing the bank as an enduring symbol of success and resilience in Ethiopia. He emphasized that this collaboration provides a massive capacity boost for EIC, enabling the corporation to fulfill its national mandate of expanding insurance coverage across the country.

Ultimately, both executives underscored that the agreement goes beyond business, serving a greater national purpose. By offering robust crop insurance and enhancing financial inclusion, the partnership is set to deliver substantial socioeconomic benefits to the public. Mr. Tadesse concluded by thanking CBE for the opportunity to drive their historic relations to new heights.
