China on Friday released an implementation plan to strengthen agricultural insurance development that it says aims to help stabilise farmers' incomes and strengthen food security, reported Reuters.
The plan, released on the finance ministry's website, called for expanding coverage of full-cost insurance and planting-income insurance for rice, wheat, corn and soybeans. It called for strengthening risk coverage for agricultural products in the crop sector, including staple grains, cotton, oilseeds, sugar crops and rubber.
It called for improving livestock insurance through tracking technology, dynamically adjusting coverage levels for breeding sows, fattening pigs and dairy cattle, and encouraging differentiated risk-protection plans for different farming models.
It also called for stronger insurance support and coverage for agricultural products including potatoes, rapeseed, peanuts, sugar beets and highland barley, as well as for the production of rice, wheat and corn seeds.
