Continuous heavy rainfall since June 8 has caused agricultural losses totaling NT$67.56 million (US$2.14 million), with peanuts accounting for the largest share of the damage, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.

The ministry said loss estimates were compiled using data from the Agriculture and Food Agency and the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency, including assessments of crop damage and losses to privately owned agricultural facilities across multiple municipalities, per CNA.

According to the ministry, 2,019 hectares of crops, or around 17% of crops, were damaged.

Peanuts suffered the most losses, with 497 hectares damaged. Estimated losses from peanut crops totaled approximately NT$15 million. Other affected crops included rice, papaya, taro, and watermelon, the ministry said.

The ministry also reported forestry-related losses, primarily involving damaged trees, as well as damage to private agricultural facilities, including horizontal trellises and greenhouses, per CNA.

Among local governments, Pingtung County recorded the highest losses at NT$29.84 million, accounting for 44% of the nationwide total. Yunlin County reported losses of NT$18.47 million, or 27% of the total, while Tainan suffered NT$8.88 million in damages, representing 13%.

The ministry said it will continue monitoring conditions and assessing agricultural losses resulting from the rain.
