India - 300 farmers in Chhattisgarh suffer loss of Rs 2 crore due to unseasonal rains

Nearly 300 farmers in Chhattisgarh's Mahima Gawadi village suffered a financial loss of Rs 2 crore after the unseasonal rains destroyed crops and vegetables. The farmers who supply vegetables to the entire Narayanpur district, are now awaiting compensation from the government for crop damage.

The farmers have been severely affected by the record-breaking rains in April and May. They were unaware of the impending natural calamity and did not take crop insurance, resulting in an additional financial burden. Officials from the district administration allegedly did not take the necessary steps to ensure that the farmers receive compensation.

The farmers have expressed their concerns, stating that they are struggling to make ends meet due to the loss of crops. Suryaram Patel, the village head, has urged the government to cooperate with the farmers and compensate them for their losses. "From where will we plant the new crop now? No one is coming to ask for survey for compensation for crop damage," he said.

Meanwhile, Limchand Patel, a farmer, also shared his experience, stating that the unseasonal rains have ruined their crops, resulting in a loss of Rs 1 lakh for him alone.
