The state govt on Friday transferred Rs 104.46 crore directly into the bank accounts of 1,17,708 farmers under the Bihar State Crop Assistance Scheme to compensate them for crop losses suffered during the Kharif 2024 season.

Cooperative minister Ram Kripal Yadav at a function said that the financial assistance was released through the direct benefit transfer (DBT) system to provide relief to farmers whose crops were damaged due to adverse weather conditions.

According to the minister, 1,17,708 farmers were selected as beneficiaries under the scheme and a total of Rs 104,46,86,450 was credited to their accounts. “The primary objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to farmers in the event of crop loss,” Yadav said.

He said the scheme is fully funded by the state govt and does not require farmers to pay any insurance premium. The scheme is designed to provide timely support to cultivators affected by adverse weather and other factors that damage crops.

The minister said direct transfer of compensation would help farmers meet immediate financial needs and continue agricultural activities after suffering crop losses.

The latest disbursement, he added, is part of the state’s efforts to provide financial security to farmers and ensure that those affected by crop damage receive assistance without having to bear the cost of crop insurance premiums.
