A farmer from Varca expressed dismay that his crops, banana plantation etc were destroyed by wildlife causing him heavy losses.

The farmer, Santolin Fernandes, who lives in Betalbatim, said he has the field measuring 500 square metres and along with his team, had been working hard to prepare the fields for the rabi season.

He also recalled how the Water Resources Department (WRD) had also assisted him in providing an irrigation channel to his fields.

He added that all the work was done and they would have harvested the crop soon but he was saddened to see that his crops and banana plantation were destroyed.

Fernandes blamed the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department for being responsible for the destruction of natural habitats of wildlife, which is why they are entering residential areas. He urged the Forest Department to look into this issue.  Fernandes added that he would inform the Agriculture Department about what happened to his fields.

On a pensive note, Fernandes said he was not sure if he

would continue growing the crops in the future as all their hard work had gone to waste and, in the end, they had nothing to show for.
