On Friday chief minister Yogi Adityanath ordered the relevant authorities to conduct an instant survey to determine the extent of damage on crops due to unseasonal rain and to provide compensation to those harmed farmers as early as possible. Additionally, the state government has enabled various reporting channels in case of losses in the case of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.

In a review of the situation, the chief minister requested all district magistrates (DMs) to go to the field and offer on-ground assessment of the loss of crops in a realistic manner. He stressed that the welfare of farmers is the number one priority of the government and relief should be extended to them with immediate effect.

Adityanath commissioned a joint survey by the revenue department and agriculture department and the insurance companies in order to determine the level of damage and generate the information to the government immediately to enable prompt compensation.

He also assigned the top officials of the agriculture department and the relief commissioner to maintain a direct communication with the officers operating at the field level to allow information to flow in real-time, and no delay to be experienced in the relief operations. He emphasized on the fact that the distribution of compensation should be done in a time-bound fashion the moment the evaluation is done.

Similarly, the government has empowered farmers to communicate crop damage in various platforms. The toll-free helpline 14447 is available to farmers who can use it to register losses or request information. Complaints could also be made through Crop Insurance App, and chatbot on WhatsApp (7065514447), in addition to viewing information on the official crop insurance portal.

Authorities indicated that any farmers who had problems in regard to insurance claims could approach district-level agriculture officers or go directly to the representatives of the insurance companies that were present in their regions and eventually get the problems solved immediately.

The state government indicated that the action will pursue the purpose of providing expedient relief during natural disasters in addition to making insurance functions more convenient and receptive to the demands of the farmers.
