The Chief Minister’s Office says the revised norms will reach more than 10 lakh farmers, with higher payouts for crops, cattle, silk, homes and schools.

Families of people who die in natural disasters in Uttar Pradesh will now receive Rs 8 lakh, double the earlier Rs 4 lakh, under revised relief norms announced by the government of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) says crop-loss assistance has also gone up by 25 to 30 per cent and that more than 10 lakh farmers are expected to benefit. The higher amounts cover losses between April 1 and November 4, and follow new standards for aid under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).

FOR FARMERS

Per hectare, compensation for crop and land loss rises from Rs 17,000 to Rs 22,000 in irrigated areas and from Rs 8,500 to Rs 11,000 in rain-fed areas. For perennial crops and agroforestry the amount goes from Rs 22,500 to Rs 30,000, and removing silt from farmland now attracts Rs 23,000, up from Rs 18,000. Land damaged by landslides and avalanches gets Rs 60,000, up from Rs 47,000.

Silk growers are included. Assistance for Eri, Mulberry and Tassar production rises from Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,800 a hectare, and for Muga from Rs 7,500 to Rs 9,800.

FOR LIVESTOCK OWNERS

Compensation for a large animal that dies goes from Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000. For small livestock such as goats, sheep and pigs it rises from Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,500, and for pack animals such as horses and mules from Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,400. Poultry keepers will get Rs 130 a bird, up from Rs 100.

FOR HOMES AND PUBLIC BUILDINGS

A fully damaged house will fetch Rs 1.85 lakh in the plains and Rs 2.06 lakh in hilly areas, and a partly damaged house in the plains Rs 93,000. Up to Rs 15.50 lakh is provided to repair a primary school, and Rs 26 lakh for secondary schools, intermediate colleges and polytechnics. New standards also cover the repair of roads and hospitals.

People displaced by a disaster can stay in relief camps with support for up to 30 days. In a drought, drinking water assistance will be provided for up to 90 days.
