Morocco has launched a major livestock support program worth 12.8 billion dirhams, aimed at providing direct financial aid to farmers, funding the purchase of fodder, and preserving breeding females across the country, during today’s session of the Government Council.

The initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen the agricultural sector and support farmers, in line with the guidance of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

“Following the High Guidance of His Majesty and as part of the national sector rehabilitation program, we are launching direct support payments to livestock breeders while completing the animal identification process,” said Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests Ahmed El Bouari during a press briefing.

The council also approved Draft Decree No. 2.25.394, which sets updated standards for the quality and food safety of edible fats and vegetable oils sold in Morocco. The decree seeks to modernize the legal framework for these products, ensuring consumer protection, transparency in commercial transactions, and alignment with international standards, explained Government Spokesperson Mustapha Baitas.

Based on the provisions of Law No. 28.07 on food safety, the decree defines edible fats and oils, specifies the allowable commercial designations, and sets labeling and presentation requirements. These updates reflect changes in the market and aim to facilitate trade while safeguarding product quality and protecting consumers.

Both initiatives demonstrate Morocco’s commitment to modernizing its agricultural sector, ensuring food safety, and strengthening the welfare of its farming communities.
