The company plans to 'capture significant opportunities' in the fisheries, aquaculture and seafood sectors.

African quick-service restaurant chain Tantalizers Plc has signed a memorandum of understanding to acquire all of the assets of Africa-based marine and fishing company, DanBethel Marine Services Limited. Both companies are located in Nigeria.

The acquisition marks a significant step in the company’s strategic expansion into the blue economy space, specifically focusing on industrial fish trawling, aquaculture, mariculture, seafood supplies and marine operations sector, said Tantalizers in a December announcement.

Adam Nuru, the company's board chairman, said in a statement that over the next five years its fleet will "capture significant opportunities in the largely unexplored Nigerian fishing and aquaculture industry."

Africa is showing increasing promise as a seafood producer. The continent's farmed tilapia production in particular is anticipated to increase by 7 percent in 2025, according to Rabobank, and is the fastest growing aquaculture sector globally.
