The Oyo State Government has stepped up enforcement against illegal livestock trading and open grazing, arresting offenders and impounding animals in parts of Ibadan during a fresh compliance operation.

Officials of the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) carried out coordinated raids at the Liberty area and Elekuro High School axis along Akanran Road after repeated warnings against the sale of livestock in unauthorized locations.

The operation followed weeks of sensitisation campaigns jointly organised by the Authority and the Association of Livestock Dealers and Breeders, cautioning traders against operating outside approved government-designated markets.

During the enforcement exercise, officers also intercepted livestock roaming freely around the Sawmill Onipepeye area, describing the act as a violation of the state’s Anti-Open Rearing and Grazing Law.

At the end of the operation, seven rams and one goat were seized by the enforcement team.

Authorities maintained that the crackdown forms part of wider efforts to strengthen environmental sanitation, maintain public order, and regulate livestock activities across the state.

Residents and livestock owners were urged to comply with government directives and obtain information on approved trading locations from the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development to avoid sanctions.
