Asturias will approve urgent aid for the drought, will strengthen agricultural insurance, and will advance payments of the CAP to support the rural environment.

The Government of the Principality of Asturias plans to approve "as soon as possible" an extraordinary decree of direct aid aimed at compensating for the damages caused by the drought in the Asturian countryside. At the same time, it will increase the budget for the hiring of agricultural insurance by one million euros, which implies an 80 percent increase compared to the current funds allocated for this purpose.

The announcement was made this Tuesday by the president of the Principality, Adrián Barbón, during the Political Orientation Debate in the General Board, where he detailed a set of measures linked to the rural environment. Among them, is the advance to October of 75 percent of the direct aid payments from the CAP for beef and dairy farms, as well as the creation of a new specific financial support line for fishing brotherhoods.

In his speech, Barbón highlighted the 'Pact for the Rural Environment' signed in February, which includes a total investment of 500 million euros until 2030, and contrasted his Government's policy with the "alarmism" that, he said, is promoted by the far-right and the opposition.

The regional president also emphasized the continuity of the new wolf control program, the application of the Statute of Rural Women, and the historic maximum achieved in the management of the CAP, with the payment of 93.1 million euros. "The rural environment must be the protagonist of the transformation of Asturias. Never a sector detached from change, always a vector of leadership," he stated.
