The Official Gazette of Extremadura (DOE) has disseminated this Monday the decision to increase the regional subsidy from 40% to 45% for the hiring of agricultural insurance for all policies that are formalized in 2026.

This measure increases the percentage that the regional Administration adds to the state aid from ENESA and will be extended to both new contracts and existing policies from January 1, 2026, with an "additional reinforcement" for the cherry sector. Thanks to the combination of state and regional aid, in this crop, it will be possible to reach up to 75% of the net basic commercial premium, the maximum allowed by the regulations.

With this reinforcement, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Natural Environment aims to strengthen the protection of farmers against damage caused by adverse weather and, at the same time, facilitate the subscription of insurance considered crucial for the economic sustainability of cherry farms, as emphasized by the regional Executive in a press release.

The policies subscribed from now on will automatically incorporate the new subsidy percentages. In the case of contracts signed between January 1 and August 4, 2026, AGROSEGURO will be responsible for regularizing the aids and paying the corresponding difference, without farmers and ranchers having to carry out additional procedures.

The increase in the subsidy is part of the commitment of the Junta de Extremadura to the agricultural insurance system, an "essential tool" to ensure the income of the countryside against extreme climate episodes, pests, diseases, and other contingencies that affect the farms.
