Luis Planas will bring to the Council of Ministers in October the Royal Decree with extra aid for agricultural insurance for those affected by the recent fires.

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, communicated this Friday that during the first half of October he will bring to the Council of Ministers the Royal Decree that will articulate the complementary aid from the central Government to agricultural insurance, aimed at all farmers and ranchers affected by the recent wildfires.

Planas specified that a support of 160 euros per hectare will be established for herbaceous crops, 1.15 euros for each head of poultry, and 450 euros for each head of cattle, emphasizing that with these amounts the maximum limit of the supplement in the combined agricultural insurance is reached and it aims to compensate for the economic losses caused.

The head of Agriculture has emphasized that, since June 2018, the Government of Spain has mobilized more than 10 billion euros in extraordinary aid directed to the entire agricultural sector, outside both the Common Agricultural Policy and the agricultural insurance system.

The minister has also announced that his department will publish in the second half of October the second list of beneficiaries of the aid for fertilizers and has highlighted that the Ministry has already paid the total of the 665 million planned in Spain, of which 117 million correspond to Castilla y León and have been received by 32,900 farmers.

"In the same way that we have done so far, we will continue working hand in hand with the entire sector, the irrigation communities, the agricultural professional organizations, the cooperatives, all the farmers and ranchers, who are undoubtedly the central pillar of our country, not only for food production but also for our rural world," he asserted.

These statements were made by Luis Planas during his visit this Friday, in the Valladolid town of Medina de Rioseco, to the modernization and improvement works being carried out in the Irrigation Community of the Macías Picavea Canal.
