The tomato harvest in the province of Seville will decrease due to the drought. Producer organizations such as the Sociedad Cooperativas Las Nieves have decided to reduce their acreage given the uncertainty regarding water availability.

"Given the drought, we didn't want to take any chances and decided to plant half as many tomatoes as we have planted in other years. Instead, we have planted zucchini and cucumbers, which are vegetables that need less water," the president of the cooperative told Confidencial Digital.

At the moment, producers are not worried about the water, as their water supplies are still full, and they should last about three months. However, if it doesn't rain before the water supplies are used up, the situation would be dire.

Normally, the cooperative harvests about 4 million kilos of tomatoes in this second harvest. This year, they'll be happy if they manage to reach 2 million kilos.
