UPA Castilla-La Mancha promotes new days on agricultural insurance to strengthen the protection of farmers and ranchers against climate change.
The Union of Small Farmers and Ranchers (UPA) of Castilla-La Mancha has launched an "intense" calendar of informative and outreach days about agricultural insurance in different municipalities of the community. This program starts this quarter in the Albacete towns of El Bonillo and Munera, linking with other technical days already held previously.
According to UPA in a press release, the main purpose of these sessions is to bring farmers and ranchers closer to the functioning of the different contracting lines, clarify doubts about coverage, and convey the strategic relevance of having agricultural insurance in the current climate scenario. These days will continue in Alberca de Záncara, Villarrobledo, Alpera, Cenizate, Villanueva de Alcardete, La Puebla de Almoradiel, Villamalea, El Herrumblar, and Valdepeñas, in the province of Cuenca, as well as in Hellín.
The agricultural organization emphasizes that it has always advocated for agricultural insurance, for its contracting, and for its permanent improvement. Therefore, it insists that agricultural insurance has gone from being a simple administrative procedure to becoming an "indispensable and irreplaceable" tool for the economic viability of farms, "one more input."
Among the reasons UPA presents are the effects of climate change, increasingly evident and repeated in the form of prolonged droughts, storms, out-of-season hail, and late frosts, which constantly endanger the incomes of families living from the land, to the point that insurance becomes a key factor for their stability.
In the face of such a recurring scenario, UPA claims the insurance system as a basic tool for farmers and ranchers, but at the same time demands a continuous and negotiated improvement of its design.
In this regard, the organization demands an update of the conditions of the different lines to better reflect the reality of the land. Among the most relevant requests are the adjustment of insurable yields, greater flexibility in the contracting periods, and the review of deductibles and valuations, with the aim that compensations arrive quickly when disasters occur.
Throughout this week, agricultural insurance awareness days will be held in the Albacete municipalities of El Bonillo and Munera. Later on, new sessions will be developed in Alberca de Záncara, Villarrobledo, Alpera, Cenizate, Villanueva de Alcardete, La Puebla de Almoradiel, Villamalea, El Herrumblar, and Valdepeñas, in the province of Cuenca, as well as Hellín.
With this training calendar, the technical services of UPA Castilla-La Mancha provide specialized advice to professionals in the agricultural sector during the days, which complements the personalized attention that is regularly offered at the organization's offices.
In this way, UPA reinforces its commitment to the stability, certainty, and future of agriculture and livestock in Castilla-La Mancha, betting on agricultural insurance as a fundamental pillar to guarantee the continuity of the farms.
