Taiwan - Typhoon Koinu agricultural losses estimated at NT$340 million

As of 5 p.m. Sunday, agricultural losses caused by Typhoon Koinu in Taiwan had totaled approximately NT$344.56 million (US$10.72 million), according to the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA).

MOA said that the five administrative areas that sustained the greatest losses in order of severity were Yunlin County at NT$232.83 million, Changhua County at NT$71.06 million, Taichung City at NT$10.36 million, Chiayi County at NT$7.4 million and Tainan City at NT$6.45 million.

The ministry added that around 9,762 hectares of crops were damaged, 2,309 hectares of which were damaged and could not be salvaged.

Additionally, peanuts were the crop that sustained the biggest loss, while chicken and pigs were the highest livestock and poultry losses in the typhoon.
