Concerns are mounting in Modoc County after a series of wolf attacks on livestock, with the latest incident occurring on Saturday at a ranch in Jess Valley.
The Modoc County Sheriff’s Office and USDA Wildlife Services responded to the attack, which left several cattle dead. This marks the second suspected wolf kill at this ranch in just one week and the fourth in less than a month.
As the number of confirmed and suspected wolf-related livestock deaths rises, local ranchers and community members are increasingly worried about their safety and the safety of their animals. One ranch hand, speaking with the Modoc County Sheriff, expressed concern for his children’s safety, as all four of the cattle killed were found close to his home.
The growing number of wolf attacks has sparked public safety concerns, and last week, Modoc County officials held a town hall meeting to address the issue and discuss strategies to protect livestock.
Congressman Doug LaMalfa is working to get the gray wold removed from the list of federal endangered species.
