A farm in Jones, Oklahoma is trying its best to recover after a possible chemical attack wiped out a large number of their crops.
"In total, we're looking at over $100,000," said Farmer Michael Ruzycki.
A staggering amount of money is gone after Ruzycki said over two acres of his crops were destroyed overnight Monday.
Michael Ruzycki said the tragedy happened at the worst possible time in his 15 years as a farmer.
"It crushes me. This is my biggest planting season yet, which means I've got the most invested I've ever put into the farm. Which also means that we're losing more than we've ever lost," he said.
Ruzycki said the crops affected were extremely valuable.
"It's our tomatoes, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, some of our peppers," he said.
Ruzycki said when he showed up to work on Monday, he knew something wasn't right.
"I realized some of the plants didn't look as perky as they should. Being in the field of farming for 15 years, I kind of have an idea of what certain things look like, I assumed it was herbicide, wasn't sure if it was drift at the time," he said.
While the hit to his farm is devastating, Ruzycki said his community has had his back during a tumultuous time.
"As far as the joy that I've been shown and feel over the last couple of days, our community has shown up and shown out more than I've felt in the 15 years I've done it," he said.
Ruzycki said the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture was out at the farm Thursday conducting plant, soil, and water samples, and that they could very soon get an idea of what could have been sprayed on the plants or what had drifted on them.
