Northeast farmers have until Dec. 1 to secure Pasture, Rangeland and Forage insurance coverage for the 2027 crop year, according to Crop Growers.
The area-based crop insurance program provides protection against below-average precipitation affecting forage grown for grazing or hay. Coverage is based on precipitation relative to historical averages rather than an individual farm’s production losses.
“Lack of moisture can quickly impact forage production and put added pressure on livestock operations,” said Jeremy Forrett, retail financial services leader.
“PRF insurance helps producers manage that risk by providing protection when precipitation falls below normal levels, giving them greater confidence to navigate weather challenges and protect the long-term viability of their farm,” he said.
Crop Growers encouraged producers to review coverage options with their agents and update policy information before the deadline. Farmers also should report changes to their business entities and ask about any policy changes affecting coverage.
