USA - Fruit growers face Nov. 20 crop insurance deadline

01.10.2026 13 views

Northeast fruit growers have until Nov. 20 to purchase or update crop insurance for the 2027 crop year, according to Crop Growers, a crop insurance provider owned by Farm Credit East.

Insurable perennial crops include apples, peaches, grapes, cranberries, blueberries, pears and cherries. Coverage availability varies by county.

Growers should contact their insurance agents before the deadline to review coverage and any supplemental options. The Supplemental Coverage Option and Enhanced Coverage Option must be added by the sales closing date of the underlying policy, according to the company.

Growers renewing coverage also should report changes in their business structure, including adding a business partner or forming a limited liability company or corporation.

Crop insurance can help protect against losses from weather and other hazards, including hail, wind, frost, excess moisture, drought, disease, insects and wildlife. Coverage depends on the policy.

Crop Growers sells and services insurance for 35 crops across eight states. Producers do not need to be Farm Credit customers to purchase coverage.
