This week, according to the Missouri Crop progress report from The U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistic Service (NASS), there were 6.3 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending June 18, 2023.

Temperatures last week averaged 70.3 degrees, 3.2 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.53 inches, 0.34 inches below normal.

Topsoil moisture supply rated 35% very short, 33% short, and 32% adequate. Subsoil moisture supply rated 31% very short, 42% short, and 27% adequate.

High rates of evaporation from soils and vegetation over the past 1 to 2 months have resulted in large losses to soil moisture. Loss of yield remains a large concern for many.

Corn Planting Progress

As of June 18, corn condition was rated 6% very poor, 7% poor, 44% fair, 40% good, and 3% excellent.

Soybean Planting Progress

As of June 18, 95% of Missouri's soybeans had been planted. That is a 2% jump from last week's reported numbers, and 12% higher than the 5-year average of only 82% planted.

Soybean emergence is at 89%, which is a 3% jump compared to last week's report. This is still well ahead of the 5-year average of only 68% emerged.

Soybean condition rated 5% very poor, 9% poor, 42% fair, 41% good, and 3% excellent.
