USA - USDA Expands Crop Insurance Options for Olive Growers in Select California Counties

14.10.2026 17 views

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Risk Management Agency (RMA) is expanding coverage for California olive growers, making insurance coverage available for the oil olive type in Alameda, Monterey, San Luis Obispo and Yuba counties.

“We’re excited to provide this option to California olive growers,” said RMA Administrator Pat Swanson. “This expansion was made with growers in mind and is part of our ongoing effort to improve risk management options for specialty crop producers.”

This change takes effect beginning with the 2027 crop year and is limited to the high density (HD) and super high density (SHD) practices only. Additionally, growers of the oil type of olives can elect to use their contract price.

The sales closing date is Jan. 31, 2027, for producers to apply for or make changes to their existing coverage through the Olive crop insurance program.
