AgroInsurance, Skyglyph, Swiss Re and Planet hosted a joint webinar dedicated to forestry insurance

AgroInsurance International, in partnership with Skyglyph, Planet and Swiss Re, hosted a joint webinar dedicated to forestry insurance and use of modern technologies for risk portfolio monitoring. More than 70 participants from 27 countries joined the webinar, contributing to the discussion by asking specific questions on technical aspects of forestry insurance. The webinar participants represented insurers, reinsurers, consulting agencies, development organizations, financial institutions, technology and service providers. High geographical distribution of participants indicates forestry risks are important, providing a range of opportunities for development of forestry risk covers in the future. Webinar speakers covered technical aspects of forestry insurance. Major topics discussed included specifics of forestry underwriting, portfolio management, loss assessment, application of remote sensing data in forestry insurance, opportunities for index-based structures and reinsurer’s view on global forestry insurance market. Panelists highlighted the key challenges experienced in forestry insurance and provided specific recommendations to consider when insuring forests. Webinar participants had an opportunity to discuss a number of questions in the Q&A panel. Questions covered a broad array of topics including the technology capabilities and areas still requiring further development, underwriting approaches to forestry risk portfolios management, insurance product types and other technical issues.
