India - Incessant rainfall results in severe crop damage across state

Incessant rainfall in Karnataka has led to severe crop damage and losses for farmers in the state. With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting heavy rainfall in the days ahead, farmers are struggling to save this year's yield. 

Soya crops in Bidar's Basavakalyana taluk were damaged by overnight rains on Tuesday. Due to incessant rains, the crops were washed away. Soya crops were damaged in Basavakalyana's taluk's Mandala circle.

Farmers, who are under huge debt, are panicking due to crop loss.

Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Gadag's Nagavi, Nagavi Thanda and Beladadi. 

Large swathes of land, where crops were grown, have been flooded. Cowpea and onion crops were washed away by continuous rains.

Panicked farmers are venting their ire against officials who have failed to pay a visit to asses damage. They are demanding relief to be provided to them for crop loss.

Heavy rains in Davanagere taluk have flooded large areas of agricultural land. Crops including areca nut were damaged and washed away due to the rains. 

Ditches are overflowing in the region and the bridge between Chiradoni and Doddaghatta was submerged resulting in halting the traffic movements.

Late night rains in Chitradurga have led to dams overflowing in the region, resulting in water seeping into the roads and agricultural fields.

It has resulted in damage to coconut and areca nut plantations in the area. Peanut, horse gram and pigeon pea crops were damaged by the rains. 

In Kolar, incessant rains led to water entering and flooding the low-lying areas in the region.

Several acres of agricultural land were flooded in the region. Crops including ragi were destroyed and roads were inundated due to the rains. 

Heavy rains have resulted in severe crop damage in Kalaburgi's Alanda Taluk. Agricultural fields in several other areas were also damaged by the rainfall.

Soya beans, Mung beans and other crops were washed away due to the rains.
