Due to a sudden temperature drop since Monday, Nashik grape farmers are resorting to bonfires and drip irrigation at their vineyards throughout the night. If the minimum drops below 5oC, the ready to harvest grapes will develop cracks. To avert this, the farmers are doing everything to regulate the temperature in their vineyards.
Anupam Kashyapi, head of the Weather Forecasting Department at IMD (Pune), said the drop in minimum temperature may affect the vineyards if farmers do not take proper measures. 'The period from midnight to 7 am is critical This is when the farmers have to take steps in maintaining the temperature in the vineyards," he said.
