Heavy rain and wind in different parts of the district over the past few days has resulted in a loss of ₹13.81 crore in farming. Crops on 287.15 hectares had been affected by the rain and wind, said a communication from the district administration.
Some of the heaviest losses have been reported from the Perumbavoor area. Koovappady, Mudakkuzha, and Okkal agricultural offices have reported damage to 114.60 hectares of standing crops, the communication said. Banana plants have been one of the worst affected.
In Nedumbassery, nearly 100 hectares had been affected. Nedumbassery, Paradkkadavu, and Puthenvelikkara panchayats had been bady hit by the natural phenomenon. Nutmeg plantations had been affected in these areas.
The Angamaly region has seen 75.9 hectares of farms being affected. The most affected areas inlcude Angamaly municipality, Kalady, Kanjoor, Manjapra, and Karukutty, the communication said.
